Pakistan-Afghanistan trade relations meeting at FPCCI Islamabad

Pakistan-Afghanistan trade relations gained momentum as FPCCI hosted Afghan delegates in Islamabad, addressing key border and transit issues.

Islamabad – 19 April 2025: Leaders from the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment visited the FPCCI Capital Office in Islamabad to discuss Pakistan-Afghanistan trade relations. Haji Younus Mohmand and Khan Jan Alokozai led the Afghan delegation, accompanied by Pakistan Borders Trade Council officials.

FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh warmly received the Afghan delegation. He assured full cooperation in addressing cross-border trade issues. The meeting focused on enhancing Pakistan-Afghanistan trade relations, a key focus for both chambers. Topics included transit trade, bilateral challenges, and the Pakistan-Afghanistan Preferential Trade Agreement.

Moreover, Afghan delegates visited the FPCCI office with Deputy Convener Syed Ali Hammad Kazmi. They discussed problems hindering border trade and ways to facilitate smoother commercial exchanges. The Pakistan-Afghanistan trade relations, affected by recent tensions, took center stage in talks.

Kazmi, along with leaders from Khyber, Waziristan, and Kurram Chambers of Commerce, actively participated. Notable attendees included Haji Mohammad Yousaf Afridi, Wajid Ali, Haji Iqbal Khan Shinwari, and Haji Qadeerullah Wazir. Haji Subhanullah from Kurram Chamber and Junaid Makda from the Pak-Afghan Joint Chamber also joined.

Senior representative Muhammad Haroon emphasized the importance of restoring trade at the Torkham border. Leaders praised efforts to reduce tension during Ramadan and appreciated border reopening for commerce. They agreed on continuing collaboration.

Moreover, FPCCI President Sheikh acknowledged contributions by Syed Jawad Hussain Kazmi, leader of the United Business Group and Khyber Chamber. Additionally, He commended the Afghan delegation’s role in easing tensions and restoring commercial activities at Torkham.

The participants reaffirmed their resolve to strengthen trade ties. They emphasized continued dialogue to resolve outstanding issues through institutional support. Business communities from both sides expressed hope for long-term cooperation.
